Dr. Mohammad Ali Zinnah has been teaching at the Institute of Education and Research (IER), University of Dhaka for almost thirty years. At present, he is the senior professor at this institute next to the director. He has been awarded a PhD from the School of Educational Studies, University Sains Malaysia, Penang, Malaysia in 2010. His area of specialization is curriculum studies and social science education. Dr. Zinnah is highly acquainted with the overall education system of Bangladesh, its present situation, challenges, and prospects. He has vast experience in guiding academic research at Master of Education, M.Phil., and PhD levels, as well as conducting fundamental research in the field of education as a consultant on behalf of different government institutions, NGOs, INGOs, and international organizations like the Ministry of Education, Save the Children, JICA, the British Council, and UNESCO. Dr. Zinnah has also worked as a core skills trainer in the Connecting Classrooms Project of the British Council from 2016 to 2020. He has a good number of publications in national and international journals on different issues of primary, secondary, and non-formal education, as well as teaching and teacher education. He was a member of the national curriculum committee for social studies at the primary level in 2004. Following this curriculum, he wrote the Social Studies Textbook for grade V under joint authorship. He was a member of the OBE curriculum framework development committee formed by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Bangladesh. He has presented a significant number of papers in different national and international conferences. He worked as a convener for developing the OBE curriculum for the Pre-professional and Professional Master of Education Program at the Institute of Education and Research (IER), University of Dhaka. He has been also working as the Convener of OBE Curriculum Development Committee for undergraduate and post-graduate programs at IER, DU. Professor Zinnah has contributed to the development of OBE curriculum as the key expert in different departments like Department of Library Science and Information Management, Department of Zoology, Department of Music, Department of Persian Language and Literature, and Institute of Modern Languages in the University of Dhaka as well as various departments of Islamic University, Bangladesh. He coordinated a cross-cultural Project funded by the IDRC, Canada and GPE KIX which has been implemented in five country contexts from May 2021 to November 2023. He also worked as a Team Lead of this project implemented in Bangladesh, Bhutan and Timor-Leste from September 2024 to June 2025. In addition, Professor Zinnah worked as a lead consultant for one of eight studies offered by the Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) and funded by the World Bank. He was the lead member of the coordination team formed by the Academic Committee of IER, DU for managing and conducting those studies. He was the Convener of OBE Curriculum Development Committee for professional Master of Education Program at IER, DU. After the student and mass revolution in July-August 2024 in Bangladesh, Professor Zinnah has been nominated chairman of the School Managing Committee of a secondary school, and member of Academic Council of several public universities, and member of the Governing Body of a private medical college. Professor Zinnah has been appointed Dhaka University’s UNESCO Chair on Inclusion in Higher Education Systems to the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Program for a period of June 2025 to June 2029. In 2025, he contributed to the development of PhD Admission Principles and Guidelines in the private universities in Bangladesh as a member of the committee formed by the UGC.
