The Faculty of Biological and Earth Sciences at National University, Bangladesh is a multidisciplinary academic community dedicated to advancing knowledge of life, the Earth, the environment, and human well-being through excellence in education, research, innovation, and community engagement. Bringing together Botany, Zoology, Geography and Environment, Psychology, Soil Science, Home Economics, and Nutrition and Food Science, the Faculty fosters interdisciplinary collaboration to address complex biological, environmental, behavioral, and societal challenges. The faculty offers Master’s, MPhil, and PhD programs across its disciplines, alongside undergraduate education in Nutrition and Food Science. Through research-led teaching, advanced postgraduate training, laboratory investigation, and field-based learning, it prepares scientists, researchers, professionals, and future knowledge leaders.
Research is central to the faculty’s mission, addressing contemporary challenges in biodiversity and ecosystem conservation, climate and environmental change, human well-being, food and nutrition security, natural resource management, and sustainable development. Its research strengths encompass biodiversity and ecosystem studies, GIS and Remote Sensing, climate change, environmental sustainability, natural hazards, human environment interactions, behavioral and psychological well-being, family and community development, and sustainable living. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, innovative methodologies, and emerging technologies, the faculty generates evidence-based knowledge and practical solutions with meaningful scientific and societal impact.
The Faculty’s teaching, research, and community engagement activities contribute directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). Through research, education, capacity building, environmental stewardship, and community engagement, the faculty supports climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, sustainable resource management, healthy communities, inclusive development, and evidence-based policy and planning.
